January 8:   Sexting And Ministry to Teens

Presented by: Clinton Faupel from Remedy.fm

Feb. 12: Developing Resilience through Joy-Centered Relationships

Presented by:  Dick Hostetler-Thriving Life Ministries

This training will give a brief overview of the components of tough cases counselors are apt to face; cases where a client is desperately stuck, perhaps as a result of trauma and/or abuse. It is designed to equip counselors as they help their clients develop “joyful identity strength” (ego strength) necessary to help them process these trauma and abuse issues in a productive way. This “joy bond” factor allows production of a stronger and healthier maturity that helps to unlock this stuckness and move clients to a place of healing.

March 12: Freedom from the Bondage of Perfectionism

May 14: Psychological Trauma, Implicit Memory, and the Verbal Logical Explainer (VLE): An overview of the work of Karl Lehman, MD

Presented by: Doug Kellenberger, LMHC

Attuning Hearts Counseling & Coaching

Join us for this fascinating overview of brain science and compelling scientific evidence for the model of trauma and healing which Dr. Lehman teaches.  Doug will share some of Dr. Lehman’s simple yet effective new tools for recognizing and addressing the challenges connected with these kinds of concerns.  We will determine interest, in the future, for Dr. Lehman’s entire series of DVD’s on the topic.  The presentation will:

  • Give a research-based definition of psychological trauma, and explain how the toxic content from unresolved trauma comes forward as “invisible” implicit memory
  • Provide information about the “Verbal Logical Explainer” (VLE) – the part of our brain/mind whose job it is to make sense out of our experiences.
  • Show how traumatic implicit memory interacts with the VLE to produce sometimes comical, sometimes costly, misinterpretations of our life experiences. These misinterpretations then have the power to wreak havoc in our closest relationships – spouse, family, community.
  • Provide simple yet effective new tools for recognizing and limiting the damage of “invisible” implicit memory and VLE misinterpretations.

June 11: Reactive Attachment Disorder

Presented by:  John Stoller–Gateway Woods

June 11: Reactive Attachment Disorder

Presented by: John Stoller-Gateway Woods

Reactive Attachment Disorder affects almost all children who have experienced loss, rejection, abuse or neglect.  To some degree, there may be some RAD behaviors in our own lives.  How do we deal with children who will allow themselves to start forming a relationship, only to push away, sometimes with very unacceptable behavior?  John will share what his agency is using to help RAD children.  This training is very enlightening and extremely useful.

August 13: Implicit Memory, and the Verbal Logical Explainer (VLE):

A continuation of the presentation focused on the work of Karl Lehman, MD

Presented by: Doug Kellenberger, LMHC

Attuning Hearts Counseling & Coaching

Back by Popular Demand! When you said you wanted to hear more from Doug about these two specific topics – we listened!

FCC is delighted to welcome Doug back to provide more depth into brain science and the compelling scientific evidence for the model of trauma and healing which Dr. Lehman teaches. This presentation will

  • Provide deeper information about the “Verbal Logical Explainer” (VLE) – the part of our brain/mind whose job it is to make sense out of our experiences.

Even if you missed Doug’s presentation in May, you will want to join us in August!

September 11: The Buoy Method: A Technique for Discovering Core Beliefs

Presented by: Dr. Mike Cook – Huntington University

Most struggles of the human soul result from falsehoods in the core beliefs – beliefs about self, God and the nature of this world. Operating implicitly, these beliefs dictate our choices, our moods, our behaviors and our lifestyles. Because they function at the deepest level of the soul, the core beliefs can be difficult to discern. The Buoy Method, as developed by the presenter, is one technique that can help Christian counselors and clients alike to uncover the core belief system.

More About FCC Monthly Meetings:
